From the Rush Creek Trailhead on FS Road 1013, which is off Clay Road there are multiple out-and-back hike options. Rush Creek Trail had almost overgrown due to reduced recent use when a large timber cut was done in the area recently to remove pine beetle infested trees. But the trail is recently cleared, opened, and in good shape. A good out and back would be up to Lane Road via Rush Creek Trail and then Kinard Creek Trail and back (4.4 miles as shown below) or maybe hike down to Wise Creek Trail and Smith Mill Road and back. For even more distance, you could go all the way to Wise Creek and back.

Total distance: 4.37 mi
Total climbing: 591 ft
