Road Cycling
Jasper County has good low-traffic paved county roads for making road loops. Some of the state highways are not bad either (especially if you are accustomed to riding in the metro Atlanta are). If you check out the road cycling map, you can see that we’ve highlighted in green the most desirable roads to link together for routes, but most paved roads in the county are suitable for road cycling. I’d avoid Hwy 83 north and south, Highway 212 west, and Hwy 16 west if possible. Below are some suggested routes and starting locations:
Road route starting locations:
- Monticello/Vanilla Bean/Jordan Engineering
- Charlie Elliott Wildlife Visitors Center
- Shady Dale
- Hillsboro Ben Hill School/Fire Station
Road cycling routes:
- Fellowship Loop – 27 miles from the Vanilla Bean coffee shop in Monticello
- BBQ Bass 2018 – 67 miles from Monticello through Eatonton then north
- Shady Dale CCW 25-mi loop from Monticello
- BBQ Bass 2019 route – 66 miles from Monticello
- Eatonton 100k CCW – 64 mile CCW loop through Eatonton (similar to BBQ Bass 2018)
