For those of you who actually regularly do bouldering, this might not be a serious destination. There are other much more challenging spots around Jasper County. But for someone like me who wants to dip their toes into the sport once in a while and do something easy, this is a fun little expedition. If you are a novice boulderer, get some climbing gloves, hike to the big rock in the middle of the Iredell Flatwoods not far south of Monticello and spend an hour or two playing around on the 8′ high boulder. Especially if you go in March or April, you’ll get the added bonus of seeing Trillium Swamp and the flatwoods area in full bloom.
